Production-related areas, as standard in the Invident system, are managed thanks to the integration of WMS with an external MES-class system. However, there are many challenges related to handling errors and failures in communication between the systems. This article presents solutions to these problems in the latest version of the Invident system.
Discrepancies in Received Quantities
During the automatic receiving process from production, when the WMS is integrated with the MES system, the user verifying goods in the production receiving area has the ability to check the received items and update quantities on individual carriers.
In case of discrepancies, outbound and inbound documents are generated to account for the differences. The entire verification process takes place on a terminal at the location where the goods are handed over from production.
Automatic Allocation
Another challenge in production receiving areas is limited capacity. Thanks to proper configuration of storage strategies in the warehouse, the allocation of goods from production areas to final locations proceeds much more smoothly — the system analyzes the intended use of the goods within the warehouse and assigns a target location accordingly. Produced goods can also be quickly captured by the system for outbound orders, assigned tasks for storage transfer, or loaded directly onto transportation.
Goods Labeling
A common issue in production receiving processes is poor labeling of goods. To quickly free up the handover location, poorly or incorrectly labeled goods are moved to dedicated locations that allow verification and attribute changes, such as batch verification and assignment, as well as reprinting of labels.
Verification of Produced Goods
Goods originating from production processes may require additional quality control. Selected items can be secured from release via instructions from an external system that enforces a block on the produced batch. Blocked goods can be placed in storage locations until released for sale or redirected directly to locations handling quality control processes.
Automatic Goods Identification
For additional control of goods declared by the MES system, pallets from production can be labeled with RFID tags. Combined with the data notified by the MES system, this minimizes the risk of errors in the receiving process. Pallets detected by RFID devices are automatically registered in the WMS inventory and are ready for further warehouse movements and usage of the labels.
Emergency Production Receiving — Manual Pallet Registration
The Invident system also offers the option for manual receiving of goods from production as standard, allowing input of all required attributes depending on the goods’ specifications. For fuller control, the system pulls some data from external systems based on production orders, significantly speeding up the process and protecting against incorrect parameter values during receiving. In situations where pallets appear in a location without orders, the system still enables their receipt with selected data input, after which goods can be sent to a location for clarification or, if no issues arise, placed on storage shelves.
